Office spring cleaning tips for workplace motivation

Find me on:

From spring cleaning your desk to placing fresh flowers in the office, there’s nothing quite like a dazzling office radiating the fresh vibe of spring to revitalise and motivate teams after the long, slow haul of the winter.

Now’s the time to organise your workspace and enhance employee happiness, wellbeing and motivation by implementing to following office spring cleaning tips.

Spring clean your desk

A cluttered desk with paperwork scattered between half-drank coffee cups does not do your mental wellbeing at work any favours. In fact, one study shows that physical clutter negatively affects our ability to focus and process information.

By contrast, a clear and uncluttered desk creates feelings of calm, making us feel more driven and motivated to take on the tasks that lie ahead.

One of the quickest and most effective ways to spring clean the office for workplace motivation is to simply declutter your desk.

Endeavour to build relationships with colleagues and co-workers

Office spring cleaning should not be being solely focused on ensuring your physical working environment is tidy, clean, bright and stylish. On the contrary, making a concerted effort to interact and get to know the people you work with, or encouraging your staff to work with one another more closely, can be an equally effective component of an office spring clean.

As we wrote in our blog about team-building exercises for the new year, team-building exercises are “one of the most effective ways to boost employee happiness and productivity.”

Part of your office spring cleaning efforts should include scheduling some fun, team-building exercises to ensure employees have a break from their normal daily duties to give their creativity and productiveness levels a boost. Such team-building activities will also help members of staff bond and get to know one another better.

Create a ‘third place’

Talking about giving employees a break from their desk to help boost productivity, wellbeing and morale, if your office doesn’t already have a ‘break out’ space designed for employee relaxation, impromptu meetings and a place where creativity and motivation can be mustered, now’s the time to implement one into your working environment.

These ‘third spaces’ are being hailed as a ‘must-have’ space where workers can escape to do their best creative work.

Make your office is bright, stylish and airy

A dimly-lit office that’s poorly ventilated and boasts dreary décor with little in terms of visual stimulation and that’s littered with old-fashioned and uncomfortable furniture, is likely to have a negative affect on employee productivity, wellbeing and motivation.

By contrast, an office that’s airy and bright, with swathes of natural daylight filtering into the room, which boasts a contemporary design infused by stylish and comfortable furniture and fittings, a vibrant colour scheme and plenty of visual stimulation, will go a long way in augmenting employee motivation.

So, if your office doesn’t comply with the above motivational factors, it looks like you’re going to be busy spring cleaning!

Alternatively, it might be easier to move into office space that already ticks the motivational-boosting checklist, that’s stylish, bright and airy with plenty of ‘third places’ and an open-plan design, which encourages collaboration and banter. If that’s the case, Carrwood Park’s serviced offices on the outskirts of Leeds are highly recommended.
