January is always a hectic month, especially in the business world. It’s so important to ensure that your employees are fully-engaged and feeling productive in order to get the new year off to a flying start. As we’ve mentioned before, happy employees are generally more productive, and it’s up to you as a business leader to ensure that your employees are happy at work.

One of the most effective ways to boost employee happiness and productivity is through team-building exercises. They offer your team a much-needed break from their day-to-day work, help to strengthen employee relationships, and can be a great way to reward your team.

If you subscribe to the Carrwood Park business blog, then you may have seen our ‘Ten summer office activities’. But of course, this time of year isn’t very practical for an office sports day! With this in mind, we’ve put together some fun team-building exercises for the new year…

1. Volunteering

Volunteer work can be a fantastic way to give back to your local community. Especially if you take a day or two out of the office to get your whole team involved. Of course, this may not always be practical at such a busy time of year. If this is the case, you could do some work in your community over the weekend. There’s so many different ways that you can make a difference. Why not help out at the local soup kitchen? Pack some bags at a supermarket to raise money? You could even host a charity fundraising event at the office…

2. Build a snowman

We’ve already seen a bit of snow this winter, and we wouldn’t put it past the British weather to snow again! Why not make the most of this and build a snowman with your team? It may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a team-building exercise. But venturing into the beautiful outdoors to get creative together is sure to improve your employees’ teamwork and give them a nice break from their normal day. If you want to add a competitive element to this, you could even split into teams and see who can build the biggest snowman.

3. Go-karting

The adrenaline rush from a go-karting session is sure to get your team-bonding in motion. Why not make a day trip to your nearest indoor go-karting centre and see who can get the quickest lap on the race track? Although it’s not always cheap, this can be a great way to say thank you to your employees for a successful 2017.

4. Board game night

Monopoly? Twister? Cluedo? Why not bring out some classic board games for a fun evening at the office with some drinks and nibbles? You can set up a few stations with different games around the office, so that everyone gets a turn on their favourites. It’s a load of fun for everyone and, if you choose your games right, can be a great way to strengthen your team!

5. Go out for a meal

If you’re looking for a team-building exercise that doesn’t take as much organisation, why not simply go out for a team meal? It may be tricky to get everyone to agree on one thing. So you could ask your team to submit their ideas and then use Doodle to vote on their favourite option. You can’t go wrong with a nice meal out to start the year…

At Carrwood Park we recognize the importance of employee engagement. From a simple lunchtime walk together to attending one of the regular networking events at our luxury business centre, every bit of team-bonding can positively impact your employee productivity.
