Colleagues and clients are on holiday. The British summer weather is changeable as ever. The kids are causing boredom-induced havoc. It’s no surprise that August can feel a bit like a dead month for business with productivity and morale taking a nosedive. But the good news is, there’s plenty you can do to boost productivity and get your team going again!

Here are our productivity tips and tricks to beat the August slump:

1. Play a game

What, at work?!? Yes, if your team is plagued by an August slump and motivation is waning, why not try suggesting they taking a break from spreadsheets, emails and phone calls and play a game instead. Research has proven that that testing your brain with a mentally-challenging quiz, puzzle, crossword, or even a quick game of cards and re-engage the mind and help people to refocus.

Yahoo champions game playing to beat productivity slumps:

“Engaging your brain in an activity likes this will rouse your slacking concentration levels and reengage you in whatever activity you need to be focused on.”

2. Schedule a meeting

Believe it or not having a productive and inspiring meeting can really boost productivity. Planning a meeting in which creative ideas are bounced around along with some innovative actions to take forward can go long way. Inspiring meetings can help you and your team (all be it few of them given most are on holiday!) leave the office feeling refocused and invigorated.

As Biz News wisely suggests in its tips for beating energy motivation slumps:

“Scheduling a meeting during the notoriously slow period…. Helps provide the necessary spark for remaining fired up and focused.”

3. Arrange the Christmas office party

It may only be August, but the most popular corporate Christmas party venues are already getting booked up. One way to banish the August slump is to give staff and colleagues a morale boost by arranging the Christmas party.

In fact, you could go one step further and schedule a meeting to discuss the Christmas party plans. Too bad for those colleagues who are sunning themselves on a beach in Spain, they’ll just have to be happy with the choice ‘team August’ have come up with!

Hey presto! You’ve cheered up the office and boosted morale – a key factor in inspiring productivity among staff.

4. Drink plenty of water

Okay so it might not have reached 30 degrees outside, but that muggy, energy-draining August atmosphere is in the air. Regular drinks of water throughout the day will help keep energy levels up and maintain productivity during the working day. And if your office doesn’t have a kitchen or space for a water cooler, now might be the time to consider moving to superior serviced offices in Leeds. Carrwood Park serviced offices have plenty of water dispensers dotted around, enabling residents to access cool, refreshing filtered water whenever they want.

5. Go for a walk

In between the August showers, why not take a break from staring at the computer screen and go for a walk?

As this NHS advice shows, sitting all day can have a devastating effect on health, even among people who exercise regularly. As well as being associated with major conditions like diabetes and cardiovascular illness, sitting for too long stifles creativity and kills focus, productivity and motivation.

Boost productivity by going for a lunchtime walk. As Biz News writes:

“A quick twenty-minute walk makes all the difference in helping your mind spring back into action.”

If you’re considering a move to a serviced office space that is designed to inspire productivity, why not arrange a viewing of Carrwood Park?
